The Koan School

We were searching for a more inclusive environment for our family, including support for neurodivergence & learning differences. (2 school-age kids, plus myself as an educator). It sits on approximately 15 acres and even has its own natural pond. It is also home to donkeys, goats, sheep, horses, and aquatic frogs. After the initial tour, we loved it so much that I started teaching there. In the last few years, the school has seen some amazing changes with the addition of the High school building, a Pavillion, an equine program, and the workshop for art including a ceramics area, mechanics & woodshop. The students participate in hands-on & student-led projects alongside core curriculum. My personal children have thrived since starting here.

Fabulous educational experience for students here. The staff really know the kids and the curriculum blends academics beautifully with hands on, authentic world experiences. The kids have a real hand in the functioning of the school - everything from caring for the animals and hydroponic garden through fixing engines and constructing shelves as needed- in addition to completing required high school academics. Very pleased.

We LOVE koan. My son has ADHD so I didn't think he'd do well in a public school, so we chose koan. Best decision I ever made. They work with them and go at each individual person's pace. It is a relaxed learning environment and open communication. I can reach out to whomever and whenever I want/need, and they respond quickly. They teach life lessons, not just school material. I would recommend this school to anyone. The admin and teachers really make this school phenomenal.
